Date:  Febrary 5, 2009
Time:  6pm - 9pm
Location:  Mary's Apartment in the Lake Merritt neighborhood in Oakland.

Featured Project:
For the first presentation, I'm stuck close to home and have asked Ada Pinkston to talk about a project we are both working on called Our Oakland: Eastside Stories.

Our Oakland is an integrated public art project by artist Rene Yung.  The project was commissioned by the City of Oakland's Cultural Arts and Marketing Division for a new East Oakland Community Library, currently under construction.  The Our Oakland project includes a large-scale architectural art glass installation at the new East Oakland Community Library and an online archive of digitized stories told by East Oakland residents.

I came across your site. It is really lovely.

Congrats on the job.

Oh, I am on the east coast now, and after having lived in Oakland for a little window.

Lake Merritt? My best ever walk took place at around midnight and ran through the wee hours of the morning. It started w/ a new friend who insisted on spending time with me. I insisted on a walk. We began near McArthur station, meandered around Piedmont, and walked past the cemetery and into the hills. There are some of the best vistas around there. I ended up near Lake Merritt. How wonderful. I have since taken the walk alone. Each time ending up near Lake Merritt. Each time has been wonderful.

I do hope you enjoy your dinner party. And, I do hope you consider a midnight walk around your neighborhood. God only knows what beautiful sights you'll discover in the dark ;-)
